It's been a long ride for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and it seems to finally be coming to an end with Logan. Judging from the trailer, this is a very different X-Men movie. Rather than a slick superhero film we get a gritty, realistic, almost Western-like treatment of an "Old Logan" story. There is even Johnny Cash singing Hurt in this trailer. Of all of the X-Men, Wolverine has always been the most compelling character. He's good at heart but also prone to some bad behavior. In this film we find and old, weathered Logan who is one of the last left of the old mutants. Charles Xavier is still around but he does not look well. Logan is broken down and more cynical than ever. Charles talks him into helping a young girl with mutant powers and Logan does so, reluctantly at first, of course. Then some bad dudes show up and all hell breaks loose. Schnikity schnak.
It's sad to see the Hugh Jackman era coming to an end. He has personified Wolverine like few actors have other superhero characters. Anyone who takes on this role for the rest of time will be judged in comparison. Even when the movie wasn't particularly good, (like that one where Wolverine was in Japan), Hugh Jackman always gives a solid performance as Wolverine. It will be weird to see someone else with the adamantine claws.
