Zachary Levi Thinks ‘Shazam’ Will Somehow Be the DC Equivalent of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Now that more or less everyone hates the DC Films Universe, it's gotta be tough to promote upcoming films under the same DCEU banner. It probably leads you to say really stupid things and make incredibly awful comparisons. Take, for example, this series of stupid comments made by Zachary Levi, who will have the titular line in the upcoming Shazam! He probably meant to say one thing, and then made it all worse by attempting to clarify.

At reported by Comic Book Movie, Levi attended the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose over the weekend and compared Shazam, a character who turns from a meek little boy into basically Superman, to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of wackadoodle characters that assemble to do some (mostly) good in the galaxy. Or something...

"James Gunn and the gang killed it," the actor said in regards to Guardians of the Galaxy. "It brought so much heart and humor and yeah, I think it was kind of like this dark horse that took everybody by storm and I think Shazam kind of has the possibility to do that because Shazam’s not, for all intents and purposes, not Supes it’s not Batman, it’s not Wonder Woman, it’s not what people [expect.]"

Sure, it's not any of those things, but don't you realize that one of the major reasons Suicide Squad was such a disaster was because it was openly trying to ape the Guardians formula—down to using one of the same songs on the soundtrack. Guardians of the Galaxy has just become the catch-all film that everyone's going to use in their elevator pitch until some other film comes out and revolutionizes the formula. But until that happens, every superhero movie that sounds incredibly dumb is going to describe itself as "Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Deer Hunter" or "it's kind of like Guardians of the Galaxy meets Irreversible."
